Laura Hernández-Winkelmann has over 20 years of experience in both the private and public sectors, serving as a senior advisor/chief of staff and in redesigning and improving business processes through analysis and assessments of programs and personnel. She is a skilled communicator with exceptional interpersonal skills and has routinely engaged leaders in the highest levels of government and industry with great success. Through multiple roles, she has continually been the “go-to” person to solve problems, execute new initiatives, and provide expert guidance relating to complex issues.
From the moment Ms. Hernández-Winkelmann began her federal service in 2006, she immediately assumed a leadership role resulting in the successful creation of a complex nationwide law enforcement program with significant national security and political implications. She continually assumed higher roles and larger responsibilities, serving multiple agency leaders as the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Director and Deputy Director. In these positions, she effectively oversaw matters relating to interagency coordination, media and external relations, and liaised with Congress and the White House through multiple administrations.
Internally, Ms. Hernández-Winkelmann continued to assume additional duties, to include the day-to-day management of budget, personnel, and operational activities.
She currently serves as the Chief of Staff for the Office of Public Affairs of a large federal law enforcement agency, during which time she greatly increased productivity by streamlining the management structure and modernizing the entire communication framework.
Ms. Hernández-Winkelmann earned her Juris Doctor degree from The George Washington University Law School, in Washington, D.C. where she focused on counterterrorism and immigration law. She received her undergraduate degree in Romance Languages with a concentration in Business from Boston College, in Chestnut Hill, MA. During her career Ms. Hernández-Winkelmann has received numerous awards for her innovative efforts, superior collaboration, and skillful diplomacy.
